Today, on International Women's Day in the International Year of the Woman Farmer, we’re celebrating the women who help grow the coffee we roast.

Across the world, women play a major role in agriculture, yet many face barriers such as limited access to land, training, and fair pay.

Fairtrade Australia and New Zealand works with farming organisations to change this by supporting women’s participation, leadership, and economic independence.

Through Fairtrade, women farmers gain better access to training, resources, and decision-making within their cooperatives. The result is stronger farms, stronger families, and stronger communities.

At Kōkako, every coffee we roast is Fairtrade certified. That means every cup helps support a system that values fairness, opportunity, and progress for the people growing our coffee.

Today, and every day, we raise a cup to the women shaping the future of coffee.

Just landed; Rwanda COOPAC ☕️

Kōkako’s latest Fairtrade Organic coffee comes from COOPAC, a cooperative based on the volcanic slopes of Lake Kivu in Rwanda, a region known for its rich soil and ideal growing conditions.

Founded in 2001 by Emmanuel Rwakagara, COOPAC began with a small group of farmers united by a shared goal: to grow exceptional coffee while caring for both the land and their communities. Two decades later, the co-op has grown to include more than 8,000 farmers across Rwanda, all working together to produce coffee of consistent quality and character.

COOPAC’s impact goes beyond coffee. The co-op invests in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, building schools and clinics, improving transport links, and distributing cows and goats to support food security. They also run agricultural education programs to help farmers strengthen their skills and build more sustainable farms for the future.

Every cup supports that work and celebrates the communities making a real difference through coffee. Get your hands on it from our website today: https://linktr.ee/kokakocoffee

A sun-filled spot with an incredible team and seriously good kai.

Owner Kiri has truly crafted something special here. Cirque is the culmination of over 30 years in hospitality, and it shows. Their incredible menu changes seasonally, and you can see the care and thought that goes into every item.

From delicious brunch to Kōkako Fairtrade Organic coffee, plus a cabinet stacked with baked goods, this place is well worth the visit.

Cirque Eatery is always brewing one of our single-origin coffees, making it a great spot to try Kōkako filter coffee. Hey, it might even become your new favourite.

Exciting news! The Kōkako x h**p hats have officially landed.

We’ve been counting down to this launch and can’t wait for you to check them out.

Made locally by our pals at Shaggy, an independent surfwear brand based in Omaha, this hat is built to last and designed to be worn on repeat.

We thought long and hard about every detail, especially the fabric. We landed on h**p for a reason: it’s soft, breathable, and durable — perfect for everyday wear, all year round.

Shout out to Conor, our Warehouse Manager, for modelling it.

Recently, Hannah, Sophie & Gabe from the Kōkako team made their way up to Pātaua to explore the new Tahi Café. Arriving on a clear blue-skied day, they were lucky enough to see the café in all its glory.

Tahi is set within a breathtaking 800-acre living eco-lab, where for the past two decades the team has been regenerating a world-class, multi-award-winning nature sanctuary in the remote north of Aotearoa. With five walking tracks and beautiful accommodation, it’s an incredible place to explore.

Nestled in the heart of it all is the summer pop-up Tahi Café, open during the main holiday season for breakfast and lunch. Expect delicious, sustainable food, Kōkako coffee, and their signature Tahi Mānuka Honey ice cream.

We already can’t wait to return and enjoy another Kōkako brew outdoors.

Ka pai to the team for creating such a special place.
