BB & The Bullets are absolutely tearing it up at The Tahi tonight.

Big blues-driven riffs. Wild guitar work. A rhythm section that hits like a freight train. The kind of band that reminds you live music is supposed to feel physical.

Warkworth showed up for this one.

What makes this Saturday different is that BB & The Bullets are no longer just a strong regional live act building a following around New Zealand. They’re in that rare moment where a band is visibly crossing over into something much bigger — and audiences can still see them in an intimate room before the wider world catches up.

Graham Reid recognised it early when he described them as “a band going somewhere,” praising the force of their blues-rock sound, the confidence of their originals, and the feeling that they were built for stages far beyond ordinary pub circuits.
Since then, the trajectory has only accelerated.

Their album Wrong Side of the River recently reached Number 4 on the Official Top 20 Aotearoa Albums chart and Number 7 on the IMNZ charts. For an independent blues-rock band from Whanganui, that’s serious momentum — especially in charts crowded with major-label releases and established touring acts.

Then there’s Memphis.

Being signed by Overton Music matters because Memphis remains one of the spiritual homes of blues and roots music. When people there hear something authentic in a New Zealand band, it carries weight.

That’s why this isn’t just another Saturday night gig.

It’s a chance to catch a band right at the point where reviews, charts, industry attention, and live reputation are all starting to align — while they’re still playing rooms close enough to feel the amps in your chest and watch every guitar solo from a few metres away.

BB & The Bullets play this Saturday 16 May at The Tahi Bar + Kitchen.

Live Music. Proper Food. Good Company.

Jake Pancho performing “The Sound of Silence” at The Tahi Bar + Kitchen this afternoon.

The bar was full of families celebrating Mother’s Day — lunches turning into drinks, drinks turning into long conversations, people settling in together while Jake played through the middle of it all.

One of those warm, slightly messy, genuinely human afternoons that remind us why local live music matters.

If The Tahi has ever given you a great night out, introduced you to a new band, fed you well, helped you meet new people, celebrated something important with you, or simply become part of your life here in Warkworth — we’d be incredibly grateful for your vote.

We’ve been named finalists in the Hospitality NZ Awards for Excellence People’s Choice Award, and this one is decided by the public.

For us, that matters a lot.

Because this place was never built just to be a business. It was built to create somewhere people could gather properly again — over live music, proper food, conversation, laughter, and shared experiences.

Every gig attended, every meal shared, every musician supported, every regular who walks through the gate… that’s what built this place.

Not every night needs a headline act.

Some nights, it’s a table, a game, and good company.

We’ve built out a proper games corner — everything from quick, easy laughs to the kind of games that pull a table together for an hour or two.

It’s all part of what we’re about here.

A place to sit down, switch off, and spend time together — properly.

Great Music. Proper Food. Good Company.
