Today I’m celebrating Mel — a completely self-taught cake artist, living in beautiful Auckland, New Zealand. 🎂🇳🇿
My story with Sugar & Spice began long before I ever owned a cake shop. My Nana would always sing “Sugar and spice and everything nice” to me. ❤️ She told me I was special, full of talent and that one day I would grow up to own my own cake shop.
Well Nana… you were right. 🥹❤️
From teaching myself everything I know to building Sugar & Spice Bakery, every cake has been part of a dream that started in childhood.
Today, on my birthday, I’m celebrating the journey, the lessons, the beautiful creations — and the amazing people who have supported me along the way.

Why I don’t film every cake! Thank you for your comment and taking the time to look at my post!
Replying to -Mhilan
- not really feasible for a busy baker (I’m a 1 woman show)
- it’s unhygienic
- eats into already long days (I work nights until 1am)
- the cakes I make take 8 - 12 hours (no time for fidling with cameras/phones
- too distracting (think about if you had to film every moment of your work day!)
- baking and marketing are two separate things
- I prefer focusing on creating the best cakes for my customers
- I do my photography of the finished cake
