You probably didnāt know this, but the Covid-19 lockdowns were a tough time for our little cafe.
Feeling like we were facing an unknown apocalypse, and later with our half our partnership locked in Auckland, and the other half locked out,, we didnāt know if weād be able to survive the end of the year.
Our AMAZING Ellerslie community were what got us through. So many of our lovely regulars messaged us to purchase vouchers, bulk in-advance coffees and to offer their support. It was overwhelming. Abi (and probably Ping) shed tears!
Whew. That was a rough time! š·

You probably didnāt know, but our partnership is made up of two couples: Michael and Ping, and Abi and Brandon.
Brandon and Ping are siblings, and together with Abi formed the original partnership with their first cafe in Onehunga 15 years ago, before branching out and starting Little Luscious 5 years later as their second cafe.
Abi and Brandon designed, built and ran Little Luscious while Ping kept things going in Onehunga. Brandon stepped out of the day-to-day work a few years ago to focus on his and Abiās other business (shout out to pvcfencesnz).
Heās not in store much, but some of our original customers might still remember him āŗļø.

You probably didnāt know, but Abigail ended up in hospital in 2023 after she rescued her senile cat from her docile dogā¦that her cat decided to attack unprovoked.
Deep cat bites in her knuckle and finger joints left her with no feeling or movement in her hand, and she was in and out of surgery at Middlemore Hospital within hours of seeing her GP for a ābandage changeā, with a second surgery scheduled in 48 hours.
Three years and three surgeries later, including a year of around 30% hand mobility, Abi is still in recovery and rehab. Thatās one of reasons you donāt see her around much and infrequently at her beloved barista station.

Think: itās 7AM, the memory of sleep still fogs your brain. Your stomach feels hollow; an incessant cry for caffeine and care.

Weird, considering sheās been a cafe owner for nearly 15 years! It never held her back from being a great barista, obviously, but the delights of espresso have finally led her into the light.
She now enjoys a tall iced americano to sip on through the day. Give her another decade and we might finally persuade her to give a long black try, because you know that old sayingā¦ ššš¤«
