SUNDAY NIGHT LONG WEEKEND AT DING D**G LOUNGE & DEAD WITCH

Ding D**g Lounge and Dead Witch will be operating late this Sunday night in recognition of Monday’s public holiday for many Aucklanders. With multiple events happening across the city, the venue is preparing for a strong long‑weekend turnout and positioning itself as a central late‑night destination.

The main bar opens from 7pm, with Happy Hour running from 7–8pm and again from 12–1am. DJ Charlotte Gloom will be performing throughout the night, delivering a curated mix of alternative rock and genre‑spanning favourites that define the venue’s sound. Food will be available all night, giving guests the option to settle in early or recharge later in the evening.

Upstairs, Dead Witch will host Ding D**g Lounge Karaoke with Bendezu, with doors opening at 9:30pm and karaoke beginning at 10pm. To elevate the competition, the venue will award two $75 dining vouchers to standout singers before 11pm. These vouchers are to be used on the night, encouraging early participation and strong performances.

This Sunday also features major activity across Auckland, including FEAR FACTORY + Imperial Slave at Studio and the Taking Back Saturday event at Tuning Fork. Ding D**g Lounge welcomes anyone heading out for the night — whether they’re coming from a show, a scene event, or simply starting their long‑weekend late — offering a central, walk‑in‑ready environment that will run well into the early hours.

GRUNGE NIGHT — SAT 13 JUNE

We’re taking it back to distortion, flannel and beautiful chaos as Grunge Night takes over both floors. Upstairs at Dead Witch, Skitch Hiker lead a lineup ripping through the heavy, sludgy, fuzz‑drenched heart of the 90s, from the giants like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Hole and STP, to the cult heroes: Mudhoney, Babes in Toyland, L7, Screaming Trees, Tad and the deep‑cut favourites only true obsessives talk about at 2am.

Downstairs, acoustic artists and DJs keep the nostalgia alive with classics, B‑sides, soundtrack gems and the mixtape staples that defined a generation.

We’re gutted to share that Gary Dooley, our long-time Comedy Open Mic host at Ding has passed away.

Gary first came to Ding around 2018 to MC one of our Mental Health Awareness nights, Cuckoo’s Nest and later took over our Comedy Open Mic. He went on to become our longest-running host and a huge part of the Ding community.

He cared about comedy, cared about people and every complaint eventually became a joke.

Even while carrying more than most people knew, Gary kept showing up. Sometimes when he maybe should have stayed home to rest, still sticking around afterwards to host our Giant Jenga battles too, when he had the energy.

This Tuesday’s Comedy Open Mic will still go ahead with the support of Laura Lyons, who has often stepped in for Gary and is continuing it in his honour, because that’s what Gary would have wanted.

Rest easy, Gary. Thanks for everything you gave to Ding, from all of us who knew you, worked with you, and laughed with you.
