The right colour can completely transform a space — and getting it right takes time.
For this project, we worked closely with designer Peta Davy from to develop the perfect green tone for the cabinetry. Three colour iterations were matched and tested on the finished material before selecting the final shade.
A detailed process, but one that made all the difference in the final result.

What’s changing in kitchen design?
Often, it’s not one dramatic feature — it’s the details that make a kitchen easier to live with every day.
In the Pohutakawa House kitchen, two of those details are doing a lot of work: pocket doors and integrated downdraft extraction.
The pocket doors, using the Salice Exedra system, allow the coffee area to be opened up when in use, then tucked neatly away when finished. For spaces that stay open for longer periods — coffee, breakfast, appliances, drinks stations — this can make a real difference to walkways and working space.
The cooktop with integrated downdraft extraction also gives far more flexibility in where the cooking zone can sit, especially where a ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted extractor would interrupt the architecture.
Both systems have been available for some time, but recent improvements mean they are now becoming a genuine option in high-end homes — provided the planning, detailing and limitations are properly considered.

Captured in the height of summer, the kitchen at Pohutakawa House uses rich, moody tones to ground the open-plan living space.
With doors opened wide to the courtyard and low-slung front deck, it flows easily into the wider home and outdoors — practical for everyday use, but equally suited to long lunches, family gatherings and weekends by the water.
Designed by Sam Baxter and Peta Davy , Carlielle was selected to manufacture and install the cabinetry throughout the home.

As part of our award-winning Manuwai project in Drury, this bespoke walk-in wardrobe continues the same dark American Oak veneer used in the kitchen and bar.
The brief was to create storage that felt intentional — not hidden. A curated handbag collection is displayed within softly diffused LED lighting, while generous shoe shelving and dedicated hat-box storage ensure the space remains both practical and refined.

This is a kitchen we recently completed in Pukekohe East — designed for a growing family in a heritage-age home.
The renovation involved opening up the kitchen both visually and structurally, including the removal of a beam to allow the angled ceiling to breathe and bring more light into the space.
The result is a fresh, country-inspired kitchen featuring:
– Lacquered shaker cabinetry
– A generous butler’s bowl
– Durable, family-friendly finishes
– A layout designed for everyday life, not just photos
Construction was completed by Mark Price Builders, with cabinetry design and manufacture by Carlielle Kitchens.
We enjoy working on local renovation projects like this, where good design can make a genuine difference to how a family uses and enjoys their home.

Positioned at the far end of the open-plan living space, this bar forms the social heartbeat of the home. Designed for homeowners who frequently host both personal and professional events, the space balances hospitality-grade functionality with crafted elegance.
Though it shares material DNA with the kitchen, this zone asserts its own identity through considered detailing and a layered interplay of light, veneer, and stone.

We’re proud to share our award-winning Manuwai kitchen.
A space that is both grounded in context and rich in detail. Brushed American White Oak veneer was crafted to achieve bespoke panel treatments with delicate, refined features. In-house bespoke tooling was developed and executed to achieve consistency and durability to every surface.
The scullery carries the same design integrity as the main kitchen. To maintain a consistent visual flow from kitchen to scullery, custom jambs were incorporated into the line of veneer cabinetry, allowing the cavity slider to integrate seamlessly. A quiet glide ladder system offers effortless access to full-height storage, pairing practicality with a little bit of joy to daily rhythm.
