Yesterday left this world đ¤
Graham was the man who taught Jacob how to roast coffee. An old-school coffee legend, he had an incredible gift for all things coffee and could work wonders with the mechanics of an espresso machine.
Raised out West Auckland and later making his home in Tutukaka, Graham spent his life doing what he loved: roasting coffee, surfing, listening to music, getting in the garden and building lasting friendships. Weâve been lucky to call him a friend for nearly 20 years.
The loss is deeply felt by everyone who knew him, especially his amazing partner, Lauren. Even though he shared his latest diagnosis with us seven weeks ago, it still feels far too soon to say goodbye.
We honour you, Graham a true salt-of-the-earth bloke with a passion for coffee, the ocean, and people. He loved surfing and has left his boards to our kids đĽš, a gift that will always remind us of him. Was so nice to have a last coffee with you today đ¤âď¸
Rest easy, mate. Thank you for everything. đ¤đđď¸

Our most anticipated release of the year is underway đ
We got our hands on a fresh set of Thomson Whisky barrels, still soaked through to the grain, packed them full of green coffee beans, sealed them up, and set them rolling.
Literally. We roll them by hand regularly, to make sure every single bean gets up close and personal with the whisky soaked deep into the wood.
Now we wait. And trust the process.
In a few months, what comes out of those barrels will be one of the only whisky barrel aged coffees in New Zealand. And it sells out every single year.

Weâve been getting a lot of messages about this one đ
âHow does it taste like peach?â
âWhy is it so different?â
Peachy Queen is an experimental co-ferment; fresh peaches are introduced during fermentation in a sealed environment.
This builds deeper, more expressive flavour and brings through that juicy peach flavour.
Not subtle⌠and thatâs why people love it.
Weâve had customers saying:
- âCrazy how much this tastes like peachâ
- âPerfect intro to specialty coffeeâ
- âA new direction for Mt Atkinsonâ
Youâll taste: Golden peach candy, tropical sweetness, soft coconut finish.
Limited release, donât miss out.

Iâm sure by now youâve heard of the Mont Blanc, itâs been on everyoneâs mind and itâs the talk of the town.
For those who havenât had the chance to try one (and for those already hooked), this oneâs for you.
You can make it at home, and itâs easier than you think. All you need is a few simple ingredients, a little whisking, and youâre there.
Youâll Need:
â˘Â    Double shot of espresso (or 250ml of black coffee)
 â˘Â    Cold water & ice
 â˘Â    80g cream
 â˘Â    5g vanilla
 â˘Â    Orange
 â˘Â    Nutmeg
How To Make It:
1. Start with your glass. Fill it about 3/4 with ice and cold water.
2. Pour your double shot of espresso over the top (we find our Piha blend works best for the Mont Blanc).
3. In a separate container, combine your cream and vanilla. Whisk until it thickens: smooth, but still pourable.
4. Gently pour the cream over your coffee until the glass is full.
5. Finish with a light grating of fresh orange zest and a touch of nutmeg on top.
The Result:
A bright, creamy, layered, instagram worthy, cup of goodness.
P.S. We find our Piha blend works best for the Mont Blanc.
Give it a go this week.

A special update from Tom and Annet, our direct trade partners in Mount Elgon, Uganda đ
Theyâve arrived home safely to a joyful reunion with family and community. One highlight was Tom reconnecting with his 102-year-old mother, Beresi, who is still actively growing coffee, an incredible reminder of how deeply coffee is part of their lives.
Their boys loved the gifts from Aotearoa. The whole community gathered to hear about their journey. Seeing where their coffee ends up has inspired Tom to push for even higher quality and improved processing this coming season.
Right now, the hills are covered in beautiful white coffee blossoms, with harvest expected to begin in July. Tom is already working on new ideas, including building more drying beds to support quality and consistency.
Tom shared this message:
âThank you to everyone who welcomed us, and to everyone who drinks our coffee. Your support truly changes lives in our community.â
Weâre so grateful to everyone here in Aotearoa who connected with Tom and Annet. Your support means real impact.

We are honoured to share Toms Pepeha. Having been to Tomâs home in Mt Elgon, East Uganda â it stuck to us how parralleled their indigenous story is to ours and their connection to the whenua (land) and whakapapa.
As we prepared for Tom and Annets visit to Aotearoa it felt only fitting to share his Pepeha! With the generous support of our dear friend Naomi from , one of Tomâs first experiences on arriving in Aotearoa was a personalised te reo lesson. Naomi guided him through the meaning of a pepeha and helped him with the correct pronunciation. Despite being deeply jet-lagged, Tom embraced the challenge and absolutely excelled in his private lesson. He then went straight into recording and filming. Naomi later joked that his pronunciation was better than half of Aotearoa!

YOU FOUND TOM! AND THERE IS A WINNER
Over the past month we have had so much fun connecting you with Tom and watching as you have meet him.
Himself and Annet have connected with so many of the people who drink and sling his coffee here in Aotearoa. Handshakes, laughs, stories, hugs, moments weâll never forget.
Seeing Tom and you in the same room has been something weâve dreamed about for years, this time together has made it a full circle moment.
Thank you to every single person who found Tom, took a photo, shared it, tagged us, and got behind the heart of âWho is Tom?â
And a huge congratulations to â youâve won yourself a 3 Month Coffee Subscription âď¸

What people say
Mt Atkinson Coffee on Portage Road in Auckland is a coffee shop with a heartwarming story. Founded by Jacob Parsons in 2007, the coffee shop has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a coffee cart. Jacob's vision was to serve the best coffee in the world, and he has certainly achieved that goal.
What sets Mt Atkinson Coffee apart from other coffee shops is their direct trade partnership with Ugandan coffee farmers. Jacob's trip to Uganda in 2010 inspired him to help these farmers get a fair price for their product. Today, Mt Atkinson Coffee imports container loads of coffee from Uganda, which directly contributes to community transformational initiatives in the Kanungu region of West Uganda.
But it's not just about doing good - Mt Atkinson Coffee also serves up some seriously delicious coffee. Customers rave about the quality of their beans and the expert roasting that goes into each cup. Whether you're looking for a classic espresso or something more adventurous like a flat white or cappuccino, you won't be disappointed.
Overall, Mt Atkinson Coffee is more than just a place to grab your morning caffeine fix - it's a business with heart and soul that truly cares about making a difference in the world. And with some of the best coffee around, it's definitely worth checking out if you're in Auckland.
