The Albany, located on the Dairy Flat Highway in Albany, is a pub with a rich history that dates back to the 19th century. The original pub in Lucas Creek was established in 1847 and was known as the Warfside Inn. Unfortunately, it burned down in 1886, but that same year saw the construction of the first pub on what is now the site of The Albany.
Previously known as Lucas Creek until 1891, Albany was named after Daniel Lucas, a whaler who arrived in the area and set up a flax mill in 1840. The current building of The Albany was erected in 1936 after being rebuilt following a fire. This makes it relatively young in terms of architectural years.
The Albany stands as a testament to the generation of classic Kiwi pubs that succeeded those from the pioneering era of the nineteenth century. It has been well-maintained throughout its existence and continues to provide an inviting atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.
