WAIHEKE, LET’S GATHER AROUND THE TABLE!

Labour Weekend is here, the island is coming alive, and there’s no better way to enjoy a Sunday than with good food, good music, and good company!

This Sunday is our Last Sunday of the Month Long-Table Gathering at Cappadocia, and Indy and I would love to see as many familiar and new faces as possible around our table!

Indy will be bringing his delicious curries.
I’ll be preparing fresh salads and all the goodness that comes with sharing a meal.
And our very own Todd, the Busking Barrister, will be bringing the music!

Come hungry, bring your friends, bring your family, or simply come as you are. Whether you live on the island or are visiting for the long weekend, there will be a place for you at our table.

Because at Cappadocia, we believe that food is about so much more than what is on your plate. It is about connection, laughter, stories, friendship, and those beautiful moments when strangers become familiar faces.

A LITTLE NOTE OF GRATITUDE

Before we look forward to Sunday, I also want to take a moment to thank everyone who responded to, commented on, or reached out to me following last week’s post remembering Andrew.

I honestly wasn’t prepared for the kindness and love that came back from this community. So many of your words touched me deeply, and quite a few brought tears to my eyes. I read your messages with a very full heart.

Thank you for remembering him with me, for sharing your kindness, and for reminding me that love continues to leave its mark in the lives of others. Your responses meant more to me than I can adequately put into words.

And perhaps that is another reason why gathering around a table matters so much. We never really know what someone else is carrying, and sometimes a shared meal, a familiar face, a little music, or simply feeling welcome can mean more than we realise.

So, this Sunday, let’s make more memories, share more food, enjoy the music, and celebrate the wonderful community we are fortunate to be part of.

Today, we remember Andrew — with love, Asure, and a little kindness.

Today marks the anniversary of the passing of my beloved husband, Andrew, the love of my life.

In his memory, I will be offering Asure (Noah’s Pudding) to our community at Cappadocia from 5pm onwards throughout the weekend,. Asure is a dish traditionally associated with sharing, generosity, and bringing people together — a beautiful reminder that even in times of hardship, there is always room at the table for one more.

Today I would also like to do something a little more.

Andrew was a very special part of my life, and one of the ways I can continue to honour his life and the love we shared is by passing a little of that love on to others.

So, if you are part of our Waiheke community and are finding things difficult at the moment — if you are hungry but simply cannot afford a meal — please come and talk to me . You don’t need to explain your circumstances, justify your situation, or feel embarrassed. I would be honoured to provide you with a full meal on the house, not just a bowl of Asure.

This is not charity with conditions, and there is no need to feel uncomfortable. It is simply one human being offering another a little kindness.

I cannot think of a better way to honour the man I loved so deeply than to make sure that, on a day when I miss him more than words can express, someone else goes to bed a little less hungry.

Today there will be a place at our table for you.

Tomorrow is the last Sunday of the Month… which can only mean one thing: Sunday Long Table is back!

Tomorrow, Indy and I are putting the tables together, the food on the table, and hopefully a few of you around it.

Expect Indy’s curries, a few of my usual dishes and sides, plenty of good food, Todd and his guitar, and the kind of conversations that tend to start with “I’ll only stay for one” and somehow continue for hours.

And of course, Cappadocia will be doing what Cappadocia does best — turning love into food and strangers into friends.

So come hungry, bring your stories, bring your favourite people, your fur babies or simply come as you are.

Cappadocia is opening its doors again!

After a few weeks away, I’m very happy to say that Cappadocia will be open again today from 5pm.

The past couple of years have brought some profound changes to my life. Since Andrew’s passing, and while dealing with some personal health challenges of my own, I haven’t always been able to keep our opening hours as regular as I would have liked.

I’m truly sorry for the uncertainty and inconvenience this may have caused, and I’m incredibly grateful for the patience, kindness and understanding you have shown me.

I’m feeling ready to open the doors again — perhaps not quite with the same energy as before, but with the same love. And, as always, where love is transformed into food.

From now on, our regular opening hours will be:

Tuesday – Sunday
11am – 7:30pm

Tomorrow is the last Sunday of the month, which means Indi & Cappadocia are bringing our kitchens together once again for a Sunday feast.

There’s something about a homemade curry on a cold Waiheke winter’s evening that makes the world feel a little kinder.

From 5:00 pm today, our dear friend Indy will once again be sharing his much-loved homemade chicken curry, served with fragrant chickpea and saffron rice and a crisp fresh green salad.

Every spoonful is slow-cooked with care, generous spices, and the sort of warmth that can’t be found in a recipe alone.

Something special has begun at Cappadocia…

A few months ago, my good friend Indy and I decided to cook together. There was no grand business plan—just two friends from different cultures who shared a love of food , hospitality, and our beutiful little island.

I’m from Cappadocia, Türkiye. Indy is from Sri Lanka.

We soon discovered that although our recipes are different, our values are remarkably alike. In both our cultures, food is about welcoming people, bringing families together and making sure no one leaves hungry.

What started as a simple idea has become something much bigger than we ever imagined. Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve sold out every gathering so far. Seeing people from all walks of life sitting together, sharing food, laughter and conversation has reminded us why we started this in the first place.

So we’ve made a decision.

From now on, the last Sunday of every month will be a special gathering at Cappadocia. Each month we’ll celebrate our cultures through food, friendship and community, while staying true to the spirit of Cappadocia—a place where people from different journeys have always found a warm welcome for centuries.

This Sunday, from 12.00 pm, we’ll once again celebrate Sri Lanka Meets Türkiye. As a little extra, I’ll also be cooking my Spanish-inspired saffron infused Chicken & Chorizo Rice in celebration of Spain’s outstanding victory, because every culture has a story worth sharing.

We’re also delighted that our friend Todd, better known to many as The Busking Barrister, will be joining us with live music throughout the afternoon.

It feels rather fitting that this gathering is becoming more than just food. Friends are bringing their talents, our community is bringing their stories, and together we’re creating something we hope will become a cherished Waiheke tradition.

Good food. Good music. Good company.

We couldn’t ask for much more than that.

We believe food has always been more than something we eat. It is how strangers become neighbours, stories are exchanged, and friendships begin. That is the spirit we hope to share, one Last Sunday at a time.

Whether you’ve joined us before or this will be your first visit, we’d love to welcome you.
