Today I was giving a facial to a beautiful older woman.
As I worked, I found myself thinking about what beautiful skin actually means.
It isn’t skin without wrinkles.
It isn’t skin without pigmentation.
It isn’t skin that looks 25 forever.
Wrinkles tell the story of a life lived. Pigmentation, texture and change are all part of being human.
When I touch someone’s skin, what feels beautiful to me is something else entirely.
Healthy skin.
Skin that feels hydrated.
Skin that feels supple and nourished.
Skin that has vitality.
Skin that feels comfortable in itself.
Of course there are treatments that can soften the signs of aging, and there’s nothing wrong with wanting that. But I’ve never believed that beauty comes from erasing every line.
To me, beautiful skin is healthy skin.
And healthy skin exists at every age.
