A new name. A fresh space.
We will be closed from 9pm on Monday 1st June (King’s Birthday), reopening at 12pm on Thursday 4th June. We look forward to welcoming you back to
experience our new name, reimagined interior, and an elevated menu curated by Chefs Jader & Jaedon.
While the space has evolved, our commitment to great hospitality remains unchanged since taking over in February. These updates mark the beginning of
an exciting new chapter—join us as we unveil what’s next. This is just the beginning—but for now, settle in, take it all in, and enjoy what’s new.

For more than two decades, Basalt has been woven into the rhythm of Howick — shared meals, rooftop drinks, milestone moments, and everyday rituals with the people you love most.
Now, after 22 incredible years, we’re evolving.
New name. Fresh identity. Same location. Same heart.

Hi Howick! We are Cole and Richard, the new owners of your local, Basalt. You may recognise us from Grangers, Marina Cantina and The Franklin - or even right here, around 20 years ago, where we started our careers!
We are super excited for this new venture and will be making some upgrades and improvements as we see fit over time. You may have already noticed the two 98” TVS we’ve installed, our new wine list, cocktails, menu updates and Thursday night sessions on the rooftop.

To get to the bar and restaurant on Picton Street in Auckland, there are two options for transportation.
By Public Transport: You can take a bus or train to the nearest station or stop, and then walk to the location. The nearest train station is about 1 mile away from the location. There are bus stops available all around the neighborhood, but you may need to transfer buses depending on your starting point.
By Car: If you're driving, head towards central Auckland on the Southern Motorway. Take Exit 433A for Khyber Pass Road/City Centre. Turn right onto Symonds St/Khyber Pass Rd and follow it until it turns into Grafton Rd/Stanley St. Follow Stanley St until you reach Queen St. Turn left onto Queen St and continue straight until you reach Wellesley St E. Turn right onto Wellesley St E and continue straight until you reach College Hill Rd. Turn left onto College Hill Rd and continue straight until you reach Franklin Rd/Ponsonby Rd. Turn right onto Ponsonby Rd and continue straight until you reach Jervois Rd. Turn left onto Jervois Rd and continue straight until you see the location on your right.
There is limited street parking available near the location, so it's recommended to park at a nearby car park if necessary.
